About Change the Engine Air Filter.

If the filter is not changed regularly, it greases and plugs the engine air intake. The engine needs both fuel and air to work, so if it does not get enough air, this will cause poor combustion, excessive fuel consumption, reduced power and emission of polluting gases.

This is why a change of the engine air filter must be made every 10,000 kilometers or 6000 miles, to avoid damage to the engine. However, it should be noted that there are different types of air filters, each with a different useful life and there are even some that filter better:

  • Paper air filter: the most economical model. With a service life of 10,000 kilometers/6000 miles.
  • Foam filter: offers a lifespan of around 30,000 kilometers/18,000 miles and is preferred by automakers.
  • Oil-impregnated air filters: these can be cleaned several times and re-impregnated with oil, having a service life of 60,000 kilometers/37,000 miles.

Despite the existence of these types of engine air filters, it is best to use the same type of air filter with which the car came. You can verify this with the vehicle owner's manual.
